The Lapwing Estate host the CLA

The Lapwing Estate recently welcomed members of the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) for an inspiring site visit that showcased how innovation and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. Hosted by Lapwing CEO James Brown, the event gave members a first-hand look at pioneering work in renewable energy, carbon removal, and agri-tech, all embedded in the heart of a working organic farm.

From the UK’s first floating solar farm on an irrigation reservoir to a pyrolysis facility trialling the Reverse Coal method of carbon sequestration, the tour highlighted Lapwing’s commitment to transforming lowland peat farming into a climate-positive model. The Reverse Coal project, trialled over 20 hectares, captures carbon through fast-growing willow, which is converted into biochar and renewable energy — tackling the historic emissions challenges of drained peatland head-on.

Visitors also saw Earth Rover’s autonomous robot CLAWS in action, a machine that destroys weeds with pinpoint pulses of light rather than chemicals, setting a new benchmark for sustainable crop management.

James Brown and the Lapwing team were proud to host the CLA and share their journey — one rooted in farming heritage but firmly focused on the future.
